The world was ending. And although they knew this, they walked along the shore, and danced in the sand, and laughed as seaweed wrapped itself around their ankles and tried to pull them under. The world was ending. And despite this, they made love; they made babies. They made automobiles and cellphones; they made safety helmets and vaccines; they made waste and war and atomic bombs. The world was ending. As it had been for so long they'd forgotten to see it. Like a picture in the hall they passed every day, it had become invisible to them. And although they knew the day following the day after tomorrow might not greet them when they woke, they watched the sun set and pretended another would rise; rise higher than the tide they knew one day would swallow the world whole, like a whale feasting on its own tail. The world was ending. And although they knew this as well as every secret they kept, they walked along the shore, and they danced in the sand, and they made love in the surf; and they knew all the while the moon above would bend the growing tides and one day it would drown their children as they slept. The world was ending, and they pretended they did not know.

about

“Beautiful classical, ambient music that fits the mood of the world. Hopeful, melancholic, strong and fragile.”
~ This Machine Is Learning

Sunflowers & Tides is a somber, mostly instrumental, album of orchestral music inspired by current, past, and future events. Most obviously these events are the war in the Ukraine (and other past, current, and future conflicts) and the events that led to it, as well as the ongoing climate crisis and the future events it will result in.

*This album was originally released with a number of AI generated elements (art and voice) which have since been expunged.
